Mahmudullah, a veteran in Bangladeshi cricket, has said that he will not play any more T20 Internationals after the three-match series against India. After debuting in the format back in 2007 against Kenya, Mahmudullah has enjoyed a 17-year career in T20Is, making him one of the longest-serving players in the format, with Shakib Al Hasan and Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams.
Mahmudullah, who announced his retirement from Test cricket in 2021, has stated that he will now only concentrate on One Day International cricket, where he still plays a vital role for Bangladesh. He scored the most runs for his team throughout the 2023 Men's World Cup, amassing 328 runs. He had lengthy conversations with his family, coach, captain, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) before deciding to retire from T20Is.
After this series, Mahmudullah will really be retiring from Twenty20 international cricket. Though it was a difficult choice, I think the time is now for the squad and me to consider our upcoming ODI obligations.
Mahmudullah has contributed significantly in his T20I career. One of his most notable efforts came in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy, when he hit 43 off 18 balls to lead Bangladesh to the championship match. The all-rounder did, however, also mention that his most frustrating memory was losing to India in the 2016 T20 World Cup on the final ball.
Mahmudullah has amassed 2,395 runs at a strike average of 117.74 and claimed 40 wickets in 139 Twenty20 Internationals. Bangladesh will lose a dependable all-round player with Mahmudullah's retirement, but his legacy will live on as he is still an integral part of their ODI team.
